Events

  • Do you love to engage in storytelling? Help bring UHeights’ story to the community!

    Location: 5031 University Way NE Seattle, WA 98105

    What You’ll Do:

    • Lead guided tours highlighting UHeights’ history, architecture, and role in the community

    • Review materials from our historical archive to stay familiar with tour content & key facts

    • Create a welcoming environment for all visitors to our building

    • Share info about current UHeights programs and events

    • Collect relevant signed forms before tours begin (photo release or release of liability waivers, etc.) 

    This is a role where you are free to set a regular schedule and decide how many tours you would like to lead on a weekly-to-monthly basis.

    Why Join? It's a great way to meet neighbors and celebrate the legacy of a community landmark.

  • Date & Time: Saturday, July 12th from 8:30 AM to 10:00 AM

    Location: UHeights Plaza - 5031 University Way NE Seattle, WA 98105

    Who Can Join: Anyone looking to lend a hand and be part of setting up a great event. No prior experience needed.

    What You’ll Do:

    • Load and unload gear, equipment, and tools

    • Assist with set-up activities like assembling canopies, setting up tables and chairs, and hanging signage

    • Help with decorating to bring the space to life

    What to Bring: Comfortable clothes for manual labor, closed-toe shoes, and a water bottle.

    Why Join? Get a behind-the-scenes look at event planning while contributing to the success of a meaningful community gathering. It’s a great way to meet new people, work as a team, and make a difference.

  • Date & Time: Saturday, July 12th from 1:00PM - 2:30PM

    Location: UHeights Plaza - 5031 University Way NE Seattle, WA 98105

    Who Can Join: Anyone who wants to support the community by assisting with event wrap-up. No prior experience needed!

    What You’ll Do:

    • Assist with breakdown activities like taking down canopies, tables, and chairs

    • Remove signage and gather all Summer Park Pop-Up related items from the grounds

    • Clean various outdoor areas to restore the space

    What to Bring: Comfortable clothes for manual labor, closed-toe shoes, and a water bottle.

    Why Join? Be part of the team that keeps UHeights looking great and functioning smoothly! It’s a quick and meaningful way to contribute, meet new people, and end the day with a sense of accomplishment.

Facilities

    Who Can Join: Anyone who loves the outdoors, enjoys gardening, or just wants to give back! No experience necessary.

    What We’ll Do:

    • Weed and tidy up garden beds

    • Light cleanup and beautification of outdoor spaces

    What to Bring: Comfortable outdoor clothes, gardening gloves (if you have them), sunscreen, and a water bottle! Tools and supplies will be provided.

    Why Join? It's a great way to connect with the community, enjoy the spring sunshine, and make a visible impact on the space around you. Plus, a little fresh air and movement is always good for the soul!

  • Location: UHeights – 5031 University Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98105

    Time Commitment: Flexible during business hours, Monday-Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM

    What You’ll Do:

    • Dust surfaces to keep shared spaces clean

    • Dry mop and wet mop floors for a fresh, well-maintained environment

    • Dispose of trash to support a tidy and welcoming space

    • Clean windows to brighten the building

    • Wipe down chalkboards in the auditorium

    • Assist with other low-impact tasks to help preserve the charm and functionality of the space

    You’ll help preserve the charm and functionality of our historic 1902 school building for generations to come. Bring yourself or some friends and make it a group volunteer party. The more, the merrier!

Programs

  • Help keep UHeights welcoming and up-to-date!

    Location: University Heights Center – 5031 University Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98105

    Time Commitment: 1 - 3 hrs/week (flexible hours, Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM)

    What You’ll Do:

    • Remove old flyers and posting new ones to keep bulletin boards current with local events, classes, and community news.

    • Keep flyers, brochures, and posters neat and well-arranged so they're easy to browse.

    • Maintain our six bookshelves and occasionally, restocking them with donated books.

    Why Join? It’s a low-stress, high-impact opportunity to support our community. You’ll be part of a welcoming team, and help maintain an inviting, informed space for all who visit!

  • Help create a welcoming space for virtual connection!

    Support two weekly online programs: Online Zumba on Sundays and Thursdays at 10 while ensuring a seamless experience for participants. Punctuality and reliability are key to keeping these sessions running smoothly.

    Location: Virtual via Zoom

    Time Commitment: 2 - 3 hrs/week (Sundays, 9:30 - 10:30 AM, Thursdays, 10 - 11AM)

    What You’ll Do:

    • Start the Zoom meetings 10-15 minutes early

    • Assist participants in joining the call

    • Ensure the speaker is visible and support speaker with screen sharing & sound as needed

    • Foster a warm, inclusive online environment

    Why Join? You’ll play a key role in helping others stay connected, active, and supported. This is a perfect fit for students, remote workers, or retirees looking to contribute a few hours per week in a meaningful way.

  • Location: Multiple Sites

    Time Commitment: 4 - 10 hours/week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 10 AM - 4 PM)

    What You’ll Do:

    • Accompany outreach staff during field visits to vehicle residents, offering a calm and respectful presence while upholding confidentiality and personal boundaries

    • Offer a second set of eyes and ears to support situational awareness and general field safety through a buddy system

    • Assist with distributing resources or materials (e.g., hygiene kits, water) and support the restocking of outreach supplies

    • Support staff in completing intake paperwork and light administrative tasks during outreach

    • Place phone calls or help schedule appointments with agencies (e.g., Social Security Office, DMV, case managers) on behalf of clients, as directed by staff 

    • Accompany clients to select appointments or housing tours alongside staff 

    • Transfer daily transaction receipts into Google Forms to support accurate digital bookkeeping

    • Occasionally drive to outreach sites or appointments when support is needed during longer days or driving-intensive shifts (as permitted by organizational policy)

    • Be part of a caring, grounded team committed to dignity, equity, and nonjudgmental support

    • Walk alongside individuals experiencing housing insecurity, mental health challenges, or addiction—offering presence, not pressure

    • Help create safer, more compassionate outreach through a trauma-informed buddy system

    • Support inclusive engagement, especially with folks in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and other historically marginalized groups

    • Learn, grow, and reflect in a space that values empathy, curiosity, and community-centered practice

  • Location: Peer Seattle (1520 Bellevue Ave STE 100, Seattle, WA 98122)

    Time Commitment: 4 - 5 hrs/week (Monday, 9:30 AM - 2:30 PM)

    What You’ll Do:

    • Support staff with administrative and documentation tasks, such as completing intake paperwork, filing, copying, and preparing materials

    • Assist with maintaining the reception area by distributing and restocking brochures, flyers, or other outreach materials

    • Provide respectful customer service, including helping clients navigate housing or vehicle repair needs and documenting relevant information in Google Docs

    • Enter and organize data for digital bookkeeping, including transaction receipts and appointment records, using tools like Google Forms or shared calendars

    • Monitor visitor sign-in/sign-out and uphold confidentiality protocols

    • Offer light tech support to visitors, such as assisting with Wi-Fi or online forms when needed
