What does the word 'Insane' mean to you? Many words related to 'insanity' are historically gendered, like witch-hunt, Hysteria, gaslighting… Being LGBTQ was long considered a “mental disorder”. Nowadays, there is a significant trend called ‘insane writing’ (发疯文学, fafeng wenxue), which has made waves on the Chinese internet amid the periodic school lockdowns, where netizens express their emotions in inconsistent and illogical words and phrases. SeaUni Open Mic (Seattle Queer Feminist Open Mic) welcomes everyone to this special open mic event with the theme 'Insane' (发疯, fafeng).
